Proposals and Alternatives: Minimum StandardsAs part of the effort to develop actions that help minimize the impacts of the conventional banana industry, Foro Emaús issued a proposal of “Minimum Socio-Environmental Standards” that lists the socio-environmental conditions that should be generally respected in the banana plantations. These Minimum Standards were developed after exhaustive analysis and reflection. Many of its clauses originate from the contributions of workers and organizations that carry out their work within the communities of the banana plantations. In general, the content of these standards reflects the opinions of unions, NGOs, and the banana communities, as well as considerable contributions from different social and natural science research centers. |
