Proposals and Alternatives
Foro Emaús is committed to carrying out serious actions in order to minimize the grave impacts that the banana industry continues to generate. In addition, Foro Emaús seeks to develop alternative products that create a greater equilibrium between human beings and nature. In light of the need to survive and the desire to safeguard the dignity and resources of nature, many organizations and people who work or live in the banana areas have begun, without state assistance, several experiments with alternative methods of production and local development. The development of experiments in organic production, including the production of bananas, as well as an increase in concrete proposals for alternatives, prove that alternative methods of economic and social development are possible in the banana regions of Costa Rica.
